Another 1/72 Airfix Canadair F-86 Sabre F.4 box no. A03083) was made.

I had a MODEL ALLIANCE decals set #MA72120 and this has various markings.

Included is a nice looking Canadair Sabre mk. F5 in scheme -6-. The markings are for a jet flown by the wing CO of 1 OTU, Royal Canadian Air Force at Chatham air base in the 1950s.

Probably this is a CL-13A with the non-slatted 6-3 wing. The Airfix kit look OK as it has the non-slatted "6-3" wing with small wing fences and kinked pitot tube.

Canadair manufactured CL-13 jets had a few different systems, the Avon Orenda engine and some different panel lines with other intake scoops. I did not bother further as it is very difficult to see where the differences are on photos and in many books I have the scale drawings are also questionable.

I did correct though the kit aileron chords that look to be far too wide. Filling the panel line and rescribing the aileron leading edg panel line 1 mm more towards the trailing edge solves this.

For the rest, it is a very simple kit. The indicated build sequence can be followed, so starting with cockpit, next the fuselage, wings and so on. Only minor filler was needed in some places.

A base grey coat of Revell Aqua 75 steingrau acrylic was airbrushed followed when dried a few coat of Johnson Future gloss varnish. This to get a smooth coat to set the overall colour of natural metal. A couple of coats of Vallejo metal coat silver 77.724  acrylic were applied with the airbrush.

The red band aft of the air intake was hand painted and the black anti-glare panel after masking airbrushed mat black.

Decalling with the MODEL ALLIANCE set was done according to the instructions. I decided to set some markings at port at a similar but mirrored position. The decal are very thin so do not leave too long in the water as than they tend to break up.

After decalling the final bits were set.

The undercarriage bays are probably natural metal, as well as the gear legs and wheel hubs. Tyres are tyre black. The cockpit interior is medium gull grey with red seat head rest. The seat base and frame is grey.

To get an even sheen and protect the decals, a gloss coat with JOHNSON FUTURE/KLEER was applied with the airbrush (but not at the anti-glare).

The kit canopy is clear but the lower frame is a bit thin but I did not bother further, the frames of also the wind screen were painted silver.
