Another few Do-28 models were made in Turkish schemes. The first one as a Do-28 D-2 flown by the Turkish Air Force. Quite straight out of the box and very similar as described on page 1 and page 3. A cabin door was set open. The overall plane scheme picked had a white colour with long cheat lines and red details. So airbrushed was a base white colour with Revell Aqua acrylic 04 white and than a gloss white coat with Gunze Sango H1 acrylic paint. The ends of wing, stabilizers and tail are red for which Revell Aqua rot 330 was airbrushed after masking. The black de-icing boots were masked and airbrushed mat black as was the anti-glare panel. The markings were home designed with a graphics program looking at a few photos and the decals were than laser printed. If you are interested in a print, look at decals sheet AIPD-53 on this page... Turkey [area: 783,300 km2 | population: 83,6 million | capital: Ankara | GDP 7,500 USD nominal per capita ] For more information about the Turk Hava Kuvvetleri, look at F-5 page here...Do-28D-2, THK, c/n 4004 coded HRT.
The
other model in a Turkish scheme was made as an early Do-28 D-1
that needs some conversion. The Do-28 D-1 appears to have these
differences as compared to the D-2: -a- wing chord was similar but the span 50 cm (about 1 ft 8inch) less; -b- there were no wing slots in the wing leading edge; -c- 4 large wing fences were fitted; -d- the rear ends of the engine nacelles were a bit "pointier"; -option- sometimes no wheel cover fairings were fitted. Old Observers book of aircraft For the Do-28D-1 model conversion, these changes were done... a. wing span was reduced 7 millimeter removing 3,5 millimeter at each tip with a razorsaw; fill the gap. b. leading edge slots were filled, using for a bit the separate slot parts of the kit to close the gap; putty and sand smooth: Fill and than sand... c. 4 wing fences were made from thin plastic card, will be installed later on. d. the rear of the engine nacelles were sanded a bit pointier (note: better do BEFORE installing these...) Often there were no wheel fairings... On this scheme as well, so were removed from the kit parts. But again better do this before setting these... I found out a bit late and did this at a later built stage. Plain gear struts were made from plastic rod and the wheels of the kit used. For the paint scheme was picked a Do-28 D-1 as used by the "Turkish Aeronautical Association"/ Türk Hava Kurumu (THK). It is overall white with red trim. Inside the model interior some extra bits were set. The remainder of the model assembly was similar as the other models. The model got otherwise a very similar paint scheme as the other made Turkey Air Force model, so overall white with red panels and black de-icing leading edges. The home designed laser printed decals were applied. If you are interested in a decals sheet, look at decals sheet AIPD-53 on this page... The 4 wing fences of the D-1 were set on the upper wing surface. Other details were the missing flap hinges from scrap, door entry steps, wind screen wipers and static dischargers as described for the other models. Add long wire antenna. Do-28D-1, Turk Hava Kurumu, c/n 4003, coded TC-TRI, 2005 An early special Do-28 D-1 is now in the model collection.
