F-15 Eagle Plastic scale model in 1/72 scale ... continued from page 9.... ![]() Another few 1/72 Hasegawa F-15J kits were made. Hasegawa releases regularly their F-15 kit with new spectacular decals, a modeller can not keep track of the many very nice JASDF liveries supplied. The kit is further described on page 4... |

![]() Hasegawa 1/72 F-15J kit #02132 has decals for JASDF in a very nice scheme of the 2nd Air Wing, no 203 squadron with an 50th anniversary seen in July 2014. The wing is based at Chitose air base at Hokkaido. The decals look fine. ![]() As most JASDF F-15 this jet also has the standard "ghost" camouflage scheme of Fed.Std FS36375 with a FS36320 pattern. Over this, any special markings are applied. ![]() The kit was assembled rather straight out of the box as shown on earlier kits on page 4... This jet still has the tail hook fairing. As most JASDF F-15 this jet also has the standard "ghost" camouflage scheme of Fed.Std FS36375 with a FS36320 pattern. Over this, any special markings are applied. First was airbrushed Fed.Std FS36375 with Gunze Sangyo H308 acryllic. Then the pattern of FS36320 with Gunze Sangyo H307 "loosely" with some paper masks hand held over the surfaces. Some areas like the central fuel tank are "cyanide blue". I airbrushed Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby 322 as shown in the instructions. It is a good idea to airbrush a bit of clear decal in the same colour just in case repairs are needed. Decalling was done and the decals fit OK. Set the decals "3" at the cockpit first before setting the smaller decals. ![]() NOTE: photos show without central fuel tank, still to be added ![]() ... in a Chitose scenery...
![]() Hasegawa 1/72 F-15J kit #00776 has decals for 2 JASDF 2nd Air Wing at Chitose base chemes: [A] 50th anniversary scheme of no 201 squadron in 2004. [B] 50th anniversary scheme of no 203 squadron in 2004. Scheme [A] will be presented here. ![]() This jet still has the tail hook fairing. ![]() As most JASDF F-15 this jet also has the standard "ghost" camouflage scheme of Fed.Std FS36375 with a FS36320 pattern. Over this, any special markings are applied. The blue colours are indicated in the instructions but include a mix as well. The darker blue is a mix of Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby 75% H328 + 25% H25. It is a good idea to airbrush a bit of clear decal in the same colour just in case repairs are needed. ![]() Masking was needed with fine tape and the Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby acrylics airbrushed. The curved intake bulges needed a bit hand painting. Kit decals were applied taking about 3 hours. ![]() ![]() ![]() The smaller bits were than installed as well as the wing fuel tanks. ![]() The results.... Hasegawa 1/72 F-15J kit #02292 was assembled but applied were different decals obtained from after market Hasegawa decals set #35228. It is for the standard JASDF F-15J before any upgrades. ![]() The model was made as a JASDF 6th Air Wing, no.306 squadron F-15J in a memorial scheme [2] as seen at the Komatsu air show in 2015. The decals sheet scheme [1] was made earlier as seen here... As most JASDF F-15 this jet also has the standard "ghost" camouflage scheme of Fed.Std FS36375 with a FS36320 pattern. Over this, any special markings are applied with the decals. ![]() The smaller stencils are be used from the mother JASDF kit. ![]() ![]() After decalling, the smaller bits were set, a semi-mat gloss varnish airbrushed and detail canopy installed. ![]() Hasegawa 1/72 F-15J kit #02272 was made already in a scheme of with the kit decals scheme 1 described on page 6. The scheme 2 is also very nice and depicts a F-15J from JASDF no.303 squadron from Komatsu in an airshow paint scheme 2017. ![]() The model was made in a similar fashion as described and the standard grey scheme was airbrushed. The special markings are decals. ![]() These decals from the Hasegawa kit are fine. It takes 4 hours to set them all. ![]() The cockpit ejection seat got some straps. The F-15J rear bay is usually white whith black avionics boxes. The large rod should be painted a bit red for a cover and is set when the jet is parked and canopy raised by ground crew. The red cover is a sort of safety item when parked. (not yet seen painted here). ![]() The completed model.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .... in a scenery at home base Komatsu... ![]() On a visit to Naha...
![]() ![]() Yep, another 1/72 Hasegawa F-15J kit was made. Kit #02265 has markings for an Eagle flown by JASDF no.201 Hikotai during the 60th anniversary at Chitose Air Base on Northern Hokkaido. It has the standard ghost grey camouflage pattern but some nice tail markings. ![]() ![]() The kit has the standard parts and it seems this jet still had the tail hook fairing and still the standard airco grill at the starboard rear cockpit side. So the model was made as suggested by the Hasegawa instructions. The standard ghost grey scheme was airbrushed, see the previous models made how. The kit decals are fine and were applied on glossy surfaces to avoid silvering. It took about 2 1/2 hours to set the decals. ![]() The exhausts without turkey feathers were made as per kit and got a metal colour airbrushed with Vallejo Metal Coat acrylic with some black thin wash. The stabilizers and tails were also installed. ![]() The remainder of the model with gears and pylons were done. This jet often flew with only the centerline fuel tank. ![]() For training, external stores often fitted are a dummy non-explosive AAM-5 missile as seen on the box top. I got the missile from a Finemolds missile set (or get it from a Hasegawa weapons set or Platz kit). It got a blue body and grey FS36375 fins and nose. The dummy missile has the seeker system but not the explosive and for training the signals are recorded and transmitted with an ACMI transmitter data link training pod. I could not clearly see the exact ACMI pod type but maybe type ACMI P5. I made the ACMI pod from scrap: the body was from an AAM-3 missile without fins and the front node was sanded pointy and a few tiny antennas were set. The body colour is FS36375. It was installed at the starboard outboard external launch rail. ![]() Finishing the model was done with semi-gloss varnish coat. Another nice JASDF F-15J model is now in the collection. ![]() ![]() |
