... continued from page 3... TWO SEATERS of SPECIAL HOBBY ![]() The Special Hobby two seat F.1B/BE dual trainer kit is of similar standard as the single seater kit described on page 1 but with a different fuselage and twin cockpit and double canopies. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kit #SH72291 has decals for French Armee de l'Air in the standard blue-grey scheme and Spanish Ejercito del Aire in a desert scheme. ![]() Kit assembly is very similar as the single seat Special Hobby kit but obviously the forward fuselage is different. It is noted that the forward fuselage parts for the dual two seater do not have recesses for the DEFA canons which suggests that the dual does not have the DEFA canons installed. ![]() The parts set inside the fuselage are seen here. ![]() The ailerons can be set here at a slight different angle as seen here; cut with a razor saw the edges and bend. ![]() ![]() In most cases, the large forward gear doors #21, 22 and the smaller doors #53, 56 are mostly seen closed so this was done as well. For the model, putty is needed and sanding. ![]() Most dual trainers do not have the wing tip antennas as seen above in the photo; all were cut off at a later stage but better do that before assembly and sand flush. Some dual trainers also have a fin fillet, so study photos. On photos most dual trainers are seen "clean" with no stores but sometimes fuel tanks are used and wing tip launch rails are seen installed. A few dual F.1B / trainers model were made. | |

![]() ![]() Spanish F.1BE dual (photographed by me at an Open day) The first double seater F.1BE kit finished as a Spanish air force model as kit #SH72291 was made in camo scheme C. The colours airbrushed were these acrylics: - lower surfaces FS36622 with Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H311 Mask and than.... - dark brown FS30219 with Gunze H310 - sand FS20400 for which airbrushed was Gunze H79: ![]() NOTE: some Spanish F.1 later got upgrades with different shaped fairings at the vertical tail; this tail part #12 is also in the kit so is an option. ![]() The model was finished in the scheme with kit decals. ![]() ![]() ![]() NOTE: later I found than most dual trainers do not have the wing tip antennas as seen above in the photo; all were cut off at a later stage but better do that before assembly for a smoother finish. No stores were fitted but the big nose gear door was set open. The cockpit got its details. It was unclear which seats were used; I installed in the front cockpit MB mk.10 with parts #2,15,27,28 and rear cockpit MB mk.10 parts #2,15,29,30 with canopy breakers on top. The seats were black with green para pack and harnass made with slices of tape. ![]() I added some instrument and side console decals found in the spares decal box. The central blast screen #H4 was made a bit smaller to fit. The insides' of the canopy frames were painted black and their edges marked black with a permanent marker. ![]() The model got a semi-matt varnish airbrushed; use a mix of Johnson Future thinned with 10% Mr.Hobby Levelling Thinner with a few drops mixed in of Tamiya matting agent "Flat Base" X21. This protects the decals and provides an even sheen. The canopies were set tilted open and that completed this model. ![]() SPAIN / Espaņa
[area: 506,000 km2 | capital: Madrid | population: 47,5 million | GDP 22,000 Euro per capita nominal ] Spain acquired for the "Ejercito del Aire"initially 15 F.1 CE interceptors and later an additional 15 F.1 CE and also 6 F.1 BE duals. A final order was for an extra 22 F.1 EE multi-role jets. The type was designated C.14. An Escuadron was also based at the Canary islands.

![]() The second double seater seat F.1 #SS007 kit finished as a Jordan air force F.1BJ model. Again the decals came from XTRADECAL set #72254. The colour is an overall FS26473 for which was airbrushed a mix of: 75% Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H308 FS36375 + 25% H311 FS36622. ![]() A central pylon #32 as per kit was fitted but no stores fitted. ![]() Note the fake canopy! ![]() Seats' type in the Jordan jet was unclear, I installed as described above. Further final assembly was also similar. ![]() ![]() JORDAN ![]() ![]() ![]() [area 89,342 sq.km | population 10,2 million | capital: Amman | nominal GDP per capita USD 4,300] For the Royal Jordan Air Force "Al Quwwat al Jawwiya al Malakiya al Urdiniya" some 17 F.1CJ and 2 BJ dual trainers were delivered from beginning 1981 until mid 1982 and based at Al Azraq.
