... continued from page 3... ![]() Another 1/72 F-84G Thunderjet with the Academy kit #1617 was made in a very similar way as described on page 1.... This kit is very good with no issues at all. This model was made in a Taiwan Air Force scheme with some home designed and made decals and the kit decals. Use the parts of the F-84G as indicated in the instructions. But the refuelling probes on the tip tanks were not seen so removed from the kit parts. Do not forget 7 grams of nose weight to avoid tail sitting. I could not see what type of airbrake was installed, used #B2. But the canopy has the frames so use part #E1. This Taiwanese F-84G model was made in a special scheme with blue stripes. ![]() The overall colour is metal and airbrushed was Vallejo 72.724 silver acrylic paint. The olive green areas were airbrushed Revell Aqua 361 after masking. The smaller bits were brush painted. The model surfaces were glossy, so decals can be done next.... Decalling was done with some home made decals and kit decals like the stencilling. The Taiwan roundels came from after market decals set from "Flying Party Studio" from Taiwan. ![]() For the blue trim was a mix of decal stripes from Microscale in FS15050 and Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H328 for 15050 acrylic paint for the curved areas like tip tank noses. The gear bays and insides' of doors were painted interior green as well as the cockpit tub and most of the ejection seat. Instrument panel and side consoles got details in black. ![]() It appears that the large code was vague and that the special markings were applied over these. This was suggested with light grey decals... ![]() I had to guesstimate a bit the roundel sizes looking at photos. ![]() The final bits like gears, doors were set as per kit. No armament and no fuel tanks were set. To protect the decals, the model got a varnish coat by airbrushing Johnson Future/ Pledge thinned with 5% Gunze Mr.Color leveling thinner. The thinner seems to be a lacquer and will strangely help leveling the varnish when airbrushed. ![]() The windshield and canopy frames were brush painted... you will need a steady hand but small glitches can be corrected with scraping with a wooden tooth pick. ![]() That completed a nice model for the World Air Forces in Plastic collection. TAIWAN
[ area: 36,200 sq.km | population: 23,4 million | capital: Taipei | nom. GDP 25,000 USD per capita ] Taiwan, the large island off the coast of mainland China was a sort of democratic area
established in 1912. The larger region saw many battles with Japanese
occupation of Northern China Mantschuria with later the Second World
War. After the end of the war conflicts remained with the Chinese civil
war with mainland China becoming a Communist continent. But
from 1949 Taiwan was able to remain the only independent area with
leadership of general Chiang Kai-shek. This has always given tensions
with Communist China. During the Cold War wars were fought in
Korea and Taiwan (ROC) was strongly supported by the USA.
The armed forces air force got American aircraft such as the F-84. These were surplus aircraft delivered with MDAP from 1953. As of today, Taiwan is under large pressure from China.
