Another few Revell Do-228-200 kits in 1/72 will be made.
The second "longer Dornier" kit wa made as a Cabo Verde patrol aircraft of their Coast Guard "GUARDA COSTEIRA". Building the Revell kit is very similar as described for the longer Do-228-200 described on page 1.
The markings are home designed decals. If you want a decals set, this is possible. Look at decals sheet AIPD 49 on the decal page 4 here...
The fuselage and wing assemblies were joined at a late stage after decalling. It has an overall white colour. Airbrushed was Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H1 acrylic. The cockpit window outlines were painted black. On this Dornier it appears that the wing leading edge panels are sort of gull grey. Masking was done and airbrushed Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H325 FS36440. The vertical tail markings are the custom decals but the edges were painted a matching blue. The door outlines are blue, these are decals. As with the other models made, the missing ventrail fins/ strakes were added from plastic card. With decalling done with the home designed custom decals, the completed wing was set in place. The gaps between wing and fuselage were filled with white glue and painted when dried. (white thus here). Bubble windows are not in the Revell kit; these were simulated with plastic disks situated at the second window from the front at both port and starboard. Fix with Micro Scale Kristal Klear.
Propeller colours may vary. On this plane the propeller fronts of the blades are light grey (approx. Revell Aqua 374 paint) with black leading edge sections. The blades are black at the rear. For the light grey/ white propeller tip stripes, Revell provides decals but I opted to paint these. The spinners are gloss silver/ chrome. Landing lights were suggested with silver paint in front of the main gear in the stubwing. The various details again included the 2x4 flap hinge rods, anti-collision lights, a few crew entry steps. Two antenna wires were set. And the kit nose pitots # 27, 28 were replaced with finer metal rods and installed. The various static discharger wires and windscreen wipers. A final gloss acrylic clear varnish was airbrushed to give an even sheen and protect the decals.
CAPE VERDE / "CABO VERDE" new flag> [ area: 4,000 sq.km | population: 600,000 | capital: Praia | GDP 2,600 USD nominal per capita ] Cabo Verde (Portuguese name) is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, consisting of ten (nine inhabited) volcanic islands that lie about 700 kilometres of the west African coast. It gained independence from Portugal July 1975. It has a small armed force mainly combating drug trafficing. A pair of Do-220-200 aircraft were flown by the Coast Guard of Cabo Verde. Do-228-212 with registration D4-CBK c/n 8222 was operated beginning 1990s. (The sister Do-228-202 had registration D4-CBC and flown from probably 1992 to 1999).
The third "longer Dornier" Revell kit was made as a Thailand aircraft operated by the Royal Thai Navy. I had nice aftermarket decals from SIAM SCALE Thailand that will be used. The overall colour is first gloss white airbrushing with lower light grey approx. FS36463 fuselage belly, airbrushing after masking Gunze Sangyo Mr.Hobby H61. The model was otherwise made very similar as described for the Cabo Verde model. At the port rear cabin doors, close the window opening; door panel decals are provided. On the wing, stabilizer and tail are black de-icing panels. Mask and airbrush. Decalling was done with the SIAM SCALE decals for the "early version scheme aircraft coded 121". These decals are excellent. The landing gear was installed after the wing assembly had been set; see notes here op page 1...
Note that the rear flap fairing behind each engine nacelle still needs to be painted black. The propeller spinners were painted gloss black. The prop blades seem to be light grey (approx. Revell Aqua 374
paint).
It was painted mat black and installed.
The various smaller details were added from scrap very similar as described for the Cabo Verde aircraft. So the 2x4 flap hinge rods, anti-collision lights, a few crew entry steps. The various static discharger wires and windscreen wipers. A single long antenna wire was set.
And the kit nose pitots # 27, 28 were replaced with finer metal rods and installed. A final gloss acrylic clear varnish was airbrushed to give an even sheen and protect the decals.
Thailand [ 513,000 sq.km | capital: Bangkok | 69 million inhabitants | GDP per capita $7,600 ] Thailand, located between Burma, Malaysia, and Vietnam in Southeast Asia, has a population of almost 70 million, with Bangkok as its capital. Besides the Air Force, Thailand's navy has also had its own air force. For more information, look at the Fantrainer page here... On to next [ Page 3... ]
