Italeri 1/72 kit:  Lockheed X-35 JSF prototype

  ...continued from page 1....

The mock-up of the X-35 was photographed at the Paris Air Show in July 2001. The pictures show the general outline of the JSF version of Lockheed.

The model was given the final paint coats for which I airbrushed typical F-16 colors.

The model received its grey coats. I used Humbrol 34 for the lower areas and Humbrol, HB156 or about FS36173  for the upper area.

the model still without marking decals.

Markings and Decals
....
Unfortunately the kit's decals can not be used. Almost all markings for the first X-35A are missing. So, I had to do a lot of hand painting, especially the tailstripes are difficult to make. The X-35 lettering came from the spare decal box.

The corrections made on the initial Italeri JSF model seem to have worked...

In November 2001, the DoD selected the Lockheed-Martin design as the JSF winner for Full Scale Development and System demonstration.
