Decades ago a few old Hasegawa F-14A Tomcat kits #JS-134 were made
by me in schemes of the US NAVY. The Tomcat was widely put into operational service. Read about the model back ground more on page 2....
I was in my early twenties...

On this Nostalgia page 3 old made Hasegawa F-14A models are presented in US NAVY schemes. The models have become old but sill are in the model collection.

These were built around 1980....

The first purchased Hasegawa kit #JS-134 was converted for a carrier catapult take-off pose. This needed the razor saw. Wing fully swept forward and flaps and slats were deployed. These were thus cut out with a razor saw, inside coamings made. The nose strut was reduced in length and "compressed" and catapult bar lowered. Canopy closed and crew installed.... Fully armed with Phoenix missiles.

Decals came from Microscale 72-119

(at the right very old yellow Airfix F-14 decals... not used)
The Microscale system was used with SOL and SET. After many years... a yellow sheen is seen below a decal.
I think I used a simple single action Humbrol airbrush propelled with air can. Probably thinned Humbrol enamel gull grey (140 ?) and white. (Airfix called it Dove Grey G14)

F-14A, US NAVY, VF-1 Wolfpack

This model got some small extra's from scrap like the entry ladder with open steps and fully detailed inside canopy and cockpit. I think the markings were a mix from Hasegawa kit and Microscale 72-119. The Phoenix missile fairings were set but only Sidewinder missiles installed on wing pylon launchers. Wing set in carrier stowage position.

The markings on this model were home made and it has the later overall gull gray scheme. I remember that I painted markings on clear decals sheet and also used spare decals. It got Sparrow missiles, detailed cockpit and canopy that was set open. Wing set in stowage fully swept position
