Markings
It was already
reported that the Amodel decals are very thin as supplied and fall apart!
(As a precaution,
I made a scan of all decals just in case it was required to make my own)
"copy"
I applied four
coats of Micro liquid decal film to
the main decals as supplied by Amodel.
The
blue
Aeroflot
striping along the fuselage gave me a lot of trouble. They just do not
stay together. By cutting them in smaller sections, setting them on was
manageable although some times they again broke apart... In some smaller
areas I had to touch up with blue paint. The end result is fine however
and looks OK.
The large black
lettering and CCCP also need carefully setting.
Finally the
black anti-glare panel in front of the windscreen was painted on.
Last detailing
was done by adding from thin sprue from the spare box:
- windscreen
wipers
- pitot tubes
- drain pipes
on lower forward engine nacelles
- antennae
on top of fuselage
- the round
fuselage windows (not using kit parts, but made from Micro Kristal Klear)
So how does
it all end up?
It is a lot
of work, cleaning up the parts, making the flaps and the overall spraying
of this model. Amodel is however to be congratulated with this kit. It
is spectacular and any modeler with average skills can make this An-22
kit.
The end result
is very rewarding. You get a very special and highly visible results and
everybody is really enjoying seeing this huge bird.
the large forward fuselage
, note small antenna on top (older Antei's had wire antenna's)
small pitot tubes can be seen
here..
